Let's make it clear, if your therapist, trainer, coach, etc., aren't assessing you throughout the process, how hard are they actually working towards your goals?
Assessments are used to confirm and rule out possible conditions. It gives us an idea of what we can and shouldn't do, provides us with a starting point, and most of all, it provides us with an indication of whether or not what we've done has made improvements.
From assessments, we can distinguish what we'd need to mobilize then stabilize. Mobility always comes first because, in simplest terms, you can't create stability in a range of motion you can't even get yourself into or are uncomfortable to be in.
Andreo Spina (Creator of FRC) defines mobility as, "the extent of controllable flexibility across articulations (flexibility plus strength), refers to the amount of USABLE motion that one possesses."
Once mobility has been established, we regain or establish stability and motor-control. We focus on bracing by irradiating internal tension, making something feel heavy then progressing into loaded movements to build strength and resilience.
This is where resistance training comes in and is a crucial factor in living a pain-free life. Don't worry. We don't need to lift like a powerlifter to get strong.
